The Kingly, Priestly & Positional Authority of the Intercessor
By Dana Roman

One of the most important keys to doing successful spiritual warfare and intercession is to know that God has called us in a positional authority, as a king and as a priest. You are a king and a priest spiritually speaking, in Christ, Jesus.

DEFINITIONS:

king: A male sovereign. One that is supreme or preeminent in a particular group, category, or sphere. The perfect, omniscient, omnipotent being; God. Jesus.

priest: In many Christian churches, a member of the second grade of clergy ranking below a bishop but above a deacon and having authority to administer the sacraments. A person having the authority to perform and administer religious rites.

po·si·tion: The right or appropriate place: The bands were in position for the start of the parade; An area occupied by members of a force for a strategic purpose: The troops took up positions along the main road; An advantageous place or location: jockeys maneuvering for position; A situation as it relates to the surrounding circumstances: in a position to bargain; Social standing or status; rank; A post of employment; a job; Sports. The area for which a particular player is responsible.

au·thor·i·ty: The power to enforce laws, exact obedience, command, determine, or judge; One that is invested with this power, especially a government or government officials: land titles issued by the civil authority; Power assigned to another; authorization: Deputies were given authority to make arrests; Justification; grounds: On what authority do you make such a claim? ; Power to influence or persuade resulting from knowledge or experience: political observers who acquire authority with age; Confidence derived from experience or practice; firm self-assurance: played the sonata with authority.

Mark 15:2 And Pilate questioned Him, "Are You the King of the Jews?" And answering He said to him, "It is as you say."

Heb 6:19-20 This hope we have as an anchor of the soul, a {hope} both sure and steadfast and one which enters within the veil, where Jesus has entered as a forerunner for us, having become a high priest forever according to the order of Melchizedek.

John 17:22-23 And the glory which Thou hast given Me I have given to them; that they may be one, just as We are one; I in them, and Thou in Me, that they may be perfected in unity, that the world may know that Thou didst send Me, and didst love them, even as Thou didst love Me.

THE IMPORTANCE OF DAILY WORSHIP: We can't cut down trees with a dull axe. Worship is how intercessors sharpen their spiritual axes. As a king and priest we must become a worshiper. We minister to the Lord and He ministers back to us through worship and reading the word of God. Let Him minister back to you to sharpen your axe. Let His presence come back into you, upon you and through you through being quiet before Him and worshiping Him. We have to have the life of God inside of us - this is the beauty of holiness - when we let Him minister to us so that we're cleansed and pure and His holiness, His cleansing, His refining comes upon us and in us to take the weariness, doubt, unbelief and disappointment out. God wants to come and fill us with Himself because He is life, health, peace, joy and the Holy Ghost. And so when you have a day that seems to be going the wrong way STOP and worship God. Spend time with Him.

wor·ship The reverent love and devotion accorded a deity, an idol, or a sacred object.; The ceremonies, prayers, or other religious forms by which this love is expressed; Ardent devotion; adoration; To honor and love as a deity. 2. To regard with ardent or adoring esteem or devotion.

YOUR SPIRITUAL GENEALOGY: Our natural father and mother do not give us the ultimate last choice for spiritual parents. Our spiritual parent is the Father, God. Jesus Christ is our brother and the Holy Spirit is our comforter. Our family and our genealogy spiritually speaking, replaces our natural mother and father. We are supernaturally created to be a king a priest and made like the image of God. Remember when you think lessor things of yourself

YOU ARE CREATED IN THE IMAGE OF GOD. It doesn't matter what your natural genealogy is it matters now what you believe and how you apply the word of God to your priestly and kingly anointing. God gave it to us when we were born again, but we do not mature into that king and priest then. We must know what God says about us and apply that kingly and priestly anointing. A king is trained for royalty and we must educate ourselves about what spiritual royalty is, or we will not mature. There are Christians that have been saved for 30-40 years and they have not matured. They're still thinking those negative, ugly thoughts about themselves. They're still sick and diseased and complain and have negative thoughts all the time. Something is wrong. They haven't learned to apply their kingly and priestly anointing. They haven't learned to mature. They've had disappointments in life. But when we look to men and are disappointed in our leaders or brothers and sisters in Christ, God tells us that we're in sin because we're looking to a person and it's causing disappointment. This is causing a spirit of idolatry to come into our lives because this person is more important that what God's word says about us, or the fact that God's word says that "we can do all things through Christ Jesus". We must be careful not to have idols that take the place, or raise above what the Spirit of God wants to do in our lives.

Rev 1:4-6 John to the seven churches that are in Asia: Grace to you and peace, from Him who is and who was and who is to come; and from the seven Spirits who are before His throne; and from Jesus Christ, the faithful witness, the first-born of the dead, and the ruler of the kings of the earth. To Him who loves us, and released us from our sins by His blood, and He has made us to be a kingdom, priests to His God and Father; to Him {be} the glory and the dominion forever and ever. Amen. We are kings and priests and we must prepare ourselves just like they prepared the kings and priests in their natural training. God wants us to be trained for His royalty. The only reason that we've been made kings and priests is because Jesus died on the cross for our sins and so that we could be born again and have power and authority.

Luke 10:19 Behold, I have given you authority to tread upon serpents and scorpions, and over all the power of the enemy, and nothing shall injure you. Every negative thought that we face we must conquer by taking authority over our flesh. We must command our flesh to "be quiet!" and release our spirit man to rise up over and above our natural carnal thinking. Sometimes there's so much negativity around us in the news, the newspapers, on television, we must turn it all off and ask God to fill us with His word. Read the word of God, listen to tapes and to worship music and let the presence of God fill your thought life and your heart. This is your preparation as a king and a priest. This is our royal training. We must get all the education and wisdom that we can.

Rev 5:10 And Thou hast made them to be a kingdom and priests to our God; and they will reign upon the earth. We are rulers on this earth. As intercessors this is really important. How are we going to rule in the midst of our enemies unless we know that God has set us positionally in authority already. The way our authority grows is that faith must be developed. In other words, the authority that we have in the spirit realm is different than it was last year because we are applying the word of God to our lives. Our authority grows as our faith grows. Our authority will start on a personal level. God will test us to see where we're going to go with this authority because authority brings power and you can really damage people with controlling power. And so God's going to test us. He's going to see how we operate and react under pressure. How are you going to react under pressure? How are you going to react when you take authority over something, somebody gets delivered or something happens and there's a great breakthrough. Then the next day the pressure is on, the devil is mad and everything is going wrong. How are you going to respond on a personal level? When we respond according to the word of God and don't yell and scream, when we absolutely refuse to give in to the enemy's strategies and we speak the word of God, then we pass that personal level test. Then God will bring us up into a level where He can trust us to pray over businesses and family situations, then He'll step us up over church and government and our cities, then He'll step us up to the nation and then He'll step us up and trust us with authority to pray for international things. He will test us at every level to see if we're going to walk and respond as a king and a priest.

7 SPIRITS OF GOD: Isa 11:1-5 Then a shoot will spring from the stem of Jesse, and a branch from his roots will bear fruit. And the Spirit of the LORD will rest on Him, the spirit of wisdom and understanding, the spirit of counsel and strength, the spirit of knowledge and the fear of the LORD. And He will delight in the fear of the LORD, and He will not judge by what His eyes see, nor make a decision by what His ears hear; But with righteousness He will judge the poor, and decide with fairness for the afflicted of the earth; and He will strike the earth with the rod of His mouth, and with the breath of His lips He will slay the wicked. Also righteousness will be the belt about His loins, and faithfulness the belt about His waist.

These are the things we must ask the Lord for on a consistent basis, in order to be a mighty king and priest. These spirits of God give us the positional authority to respond correctly. We need wisdom, understanding, counsel, every day of our life. We need strength and endurance to do spiritual warfare against the enemy and still end up feeling successful and victorious. It's not by the sight of our eyes. We can't go by your natural feelings or circumstances. If we go by these things we will sink. If we go by what we believe and hope in faith (the word of God) and what we know God wants to do in the end result we will keep that victorious mentality.

SEE THE END RESULT: Get a vision and see it through to the end and don't give up in the middle..whether it's your marriage, your children, your business, your friendships, your relationships, your pastors, it doesn't matter. We've got to be able, as intercessors, to see the end result. Every king is trained to see the battle and see what's needed in the battle, and to see the victory. Every king is trained as a little boy to be successful and feel good about himself. The power of the Holy Spirit and that time of worship that comes in our lives will cleanse us from pride and arrogance that could arise from this. Attacks and retaliations knock us down and kill our pride. We die to our flesh. That's how God works in the spirit realm. We have plenty of opportunity to die to our flesh daily and it keeps pride knocked right off of us when we're humble before the Lord and we know that it's His strength working through us.

THE POWER OF OUR WORDS: In the words of our mouth are death and life. God has given us as intercessors creative ability. As an intercessor we are called and chosen by God through faith to create in the spirit realm first. We're praying for certain miracles, for example. We're forming this creativity in the spirit realm first. Then we call it from the spirit realm down to the natural realm. We create, we speak it forth "this mountain shall be removed in Jesus' name"…we pull the stronghold down; pull demonic spirits down; break the demonic spirits over people's lives; We take the authority and responsibility in the spirit realm and do not let up until we see it "in the name of Jesus." We need to keep praying through until we see the results in the natural. We don't just thank God for all the miracles He's going to do and say Hallelujah. We need to speak to the powers of darkness at work and to the negative things and speak life into the situation in Jesus' name. That's how we create in the spirit realm. We create a whole new picture in the spirit realm first. This is how most of the successful ministry gifts of healing and miracles work. They go into their prayer closet and do not come out until they see results. We need to fast and pray for our children, our marriages, our pastors, our cities to be saved , for revival to break out, for supernatural signs and wonders to be created, for the prophetic word to be able to come out of us like a sharp two edged sword. These things will be created in our prayer closet first under our kingly and priestly anointing and knowing we have been given a position in Christ Jesus. We need to stand there until we see the end result and know that we are not going to give up. When the enemy comes and says "blah, blah, blah…" we need to take authority over every vain imagination that exalts itself above the word of God. Those vain imaginations, thoughts and attacks from the enemy are not the truth. The word of God is the truth and the truth is that if we do not apply the positive word then the negative cycles will start all over again in our life. Remember that death and life is in the power of our tongue.

CHOSING THE SPIRIT AND GOD'S RIGHTEOUSNESS OVER THE FLESH: God wants us in the spirit and not in the flesh. That's the faith of the Lord working through us. Rom 8:6-9 For the mind set on the flesh is death, but the mind set on the Spirit is life and peace, because the mind set on the flesh is hostile toward God; for it does not subject itself to the law of God, for it is not even able to do so and those who are in the flesh cannot please God. However, you are not in the flesh but in the Spirit, if indeed the Spirit of God dwells in you. But if anyone does not have the Spirit of Christ, he does not belong to Him.

2 Cor 5:17-21 Therefore if any man is in Christ, he is a new creature; the old things passed away; behold, new things have come. Now all these things are from God, who reconciled us to Himself through Christ, and gave us the ministry of reconciliation, namely, that God was in Christ reconciling the world to Himself, not counting their trespasses against them, and He has committed to us the word of reconciliation. Therefore, we are ambassadors for Christ, as though God were entreating through us; we beg you on behalf of Christ, be reconciled to God. He made Him who knew no sin to be sin on our behalf, that we might become the righteousness of God in Him. This righteousness is all about who He is through us. If we get prideful about it God will knock us down and we'll have to start all over again. It is this righteousness that will allow us to press through toward the mark of the high calling of God in our life. We all have a higher calling. We are chosen of the Lord. We need to pray for 2 things with this kingly and priestly anointing. (Neh. 2:4-5)

1. Pray for the favor of the Lord upon us by sacrificing our lives as a living sacrifice. We need to give up something that is a sacrifice to us. This is why there is power in prayer and fasting. When we give up something to the Lord He will repay it to us.

2. Pray for the favor of those in authority over you.

SUMMARY: A King in the Strong's Concordance is a person with sovereign foundation power, inherited through generations, a man highly successful in some field or kingdom. THAT'S YOU! YOU'RE A SPIRITUAL KING. God wants us to think in these terms. We've inherited everything that He has, everything that He is and He has on this earth and in heaven is ours. We've inherited it. We're already successful because Jesus Christ in us is already successful. We just have to apply all this knowledge.

A priest is a holy person, an elder, a person whose function is to make sacrificial offerings and perform other religious responsibility. Rom 12:1-2 I urge you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, to present your bodies a living and holy sacrifice, acceptable to God, which is your spiritual service of worship. And do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, that you may prove what the will of God is, that which is good and acceptable and perfect. Our positional authority is in Christ Jesus. He will start us in the "boot camp" at the bottom and will raise our level of authority if we respond correctly and can handle the pressure. The key is positional authority.

Knowing who we are in Christ Jesus and that the Lord is with us.

Keep your eyes on Jesus and fix your mind on the end result - victory GOD IS SATISFIED - MAN IS JUSTIFIED - THE DEVIL IS NOTIFIED - VICTORY IS VERIFIED YOU ARE A KING AND A PRIEST OF THE MOST HIGH GOD
